What happens in the first counseling session?

Your first session is a relaxed, confidential conversation where Dr. Fischer gets to know you and your story. There's no pressure to have everything figured out. We'll talk about what brought you in, your goals, and what you hope to gain from counseling. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and make sure you feel comfortable moving forward.

Getting Started

How long does counseling usually take?

Every person and situation is unique, so there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Some clients find clarity in just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over several months. Dr. Fischer will work with you to set a pace that feels right, and you can adjust at any time. Progress is measured by your growth, not a fixed timeline.

Sessions

Is faith-based counseling right for me if I'm not very religious?

Absolutely. Dr. Fischer meets you exactly where you are. Faith is woven into the approach, but it's never forced. Many clients who wouldn't describe themselves as deeply religious find the perspective refreshing and grounding. Your beliefs are respected, and sessions are always centered on your needs and comfort.

Approach

Is everything I share kept confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of counseling. What you share stays between you and your counselor, with a few legal exceptions involving imminent risk of harm. Dr. Fischer takes your privacy seriously so you can speak openly and honestly without fear of judgment.

Privacy

Do you offer marriage and family counseling?

Yes. Dr. Fischer works with individuals, couples, and families. For couples, the approach helps both partners feel heard, learn healthy communication skills, and rebuild trust. For families, sessions focus on understanding patterns and creating a home environment where everyone can thrive.
